In an effort to be less serious, I wanted to post something to make you smile on this lovely Friday. Life is too short to be serious all the time, right?

Here is a pic I snapped with my iphone one day (processed with the ShakeIt photo app) while I furiously shopped with my cousin Ann. Girls will be girls and we sometimes get wrapped up in clothes, trying on clothes and buying clothes. I looked over at my wonderful, patient hubby and there he was, relaxing in Madewell with a book in the guy's "living" area. Not exactly sure why this picture makes me laugh, but it does.

That's it for today - good day!

After our relaxing time in the Sacred Valley and our restorative trek through the mountains to Machu Picchu, we decided to head to a nearby urban environment - Cusco. Chris was hilarious when we got there, saying he was "overstimulated" by all the activity. It was true. Compared to the quiet life of the Sacred Valley, Cusco was buzzing with activity. One of my favorites things I did in Cusco was wake up very early and wander the streets. I would grab a to go coffee and just explore. Here are some of my favorite pics from those times.

Leann also asked me on my last Peru blogpost (thanks for commenting, Leann!) how I take stranger's pictures. It is a combination of just capturing what is happening in the street and actually giving people money for taking their pictures. I always tried to be prepared with the appropriate change and I always ask permission before taking people's pictures. I just raise my camera slightly and give a questioning/permission-seeking look. Normally, they will stop for a pic and every once in awhile, they may look away or walk away quickly. I never take a picture if someone does not want me to, but it doesn't happen often.

I am definitely not a street photography guru, I am still learning every time I travel. I have found some great resources that help and inspire me before leaving on a trip. To read a great post on Street Photography, check this post out by Sarah Rhoads - click here. I also bought Nick Onken's new book - Photo Trekking. Street Photography is truly an art and one of my goals when I travel is to truly capture the feeling of a country and the people. It's much harder than it looks!  All I can do is keep traveling, so I can get better - ha.  :)

Enjoy Cusco...

Peru was beautiful. Serene and peaceful, but also colorful and full of celebration. I had planned this trip for so long, I waited with bated breath as we endured our outgoing flight.  I almost even feared working on these pictures and then showing them to others, I wanted to make sure and show the real Peru. Well, the Peru from our perspective and experience.

I took a lot of pictures, 'tis true, and I didn't wait to overwhelm you all in one day - so this is part I. We started our vacation in the Sacred Valley and then continued on through the challenging 2-day Inca trail. After our sweat, tears and now burning muscles, we came upon the reason I chose to go to Peru - Machu Picchu.

My first glimpse of Peru was jaw dropping. Honestly, my jaw literally dropped.  I was thoroughly enjoying my Peruvian airplane snacks when I nonchalantly glanced out the window...and wow, this was the view that greeted me.

I promise to share more pictures and stories in the days to come, but I wanted to tell you that I am still alive and kicking. I'm actually better than that - I'm refreshed, rejuvenated and excited to be back in the throws of life.

Thank you all for your patience in my responses to email, I promise I am trying as hard as I can to get caught up!

More soon...
