Houston has a slightly bad reputation in the community. For being unruly, unregulated and lacking in a community infrastructure to bring it together. I actually grew up in a suburb of Houston, little 'ole Alief. Speaking of a bad reputation, we won't even get into Alief's reputation... Anyway, when my husband asked me to move back 3 years ago, I scoffed. I told him I would rather move to a remote village in Africa than move back to Houston, TX!! Funny how that works, huh? Love and escaping NYC brought me back to the town that I had been escaping for the years prior. AND, I must say that I have now grown quite fond of it. Don't quote me on this later, but now find Houston to be uniquely comfortable and the people to be incredibly friendly. Plus, I am near my family which has grown more important to me with each passing year.
Loooong story short, I had fun with my digital SLR because I could explore the unique corners of Houston and take as many pictures as I wanted. I found inspiration everywhere. It is important as a photographer to continually challenge yourself and keep stretching your knowledge base. Too Comfortable = Bad. Here are some images of my "travels." Happy Tuesday!

wow! all of these are so very "Houston" hehehe I love the rusty, open window one a lot :)

Our love of photography brought us together; the desire to live, learn and share. I decided on the place - my new favorite coffee shop, Antidote Coffee in the Heights. If anyone hasn't visited there before, you are missing out. Our wonderful attendees were the talented portrait/wedding photographer Margaret Lee and the beautiful family portrait photographer Jenna-Dee Detro.
As we were in the middle of very serious discussions, I was THAT person that pulled out their camera to interrupt the conversation. Love it!
A shout out to our long lost fourth member, Kimberly was out sick and we missed her desperately. We are looking forward to hanging out with her on our next outing!

This is the ever hilarious Margaret Lee.

We tried to be VERY serious and only talk about business, but who can help having fun? Definitely not with Margaret around!!

So...Margaret and Jenna-Dee were a little jealous of my recent session with Sarah Rhoads...They decided to reenact their favorite image.

Then we decided to take cheesy maternity pictures...Jenna-Dee tried to help us, but...

We had so much fun! For anyone out there who loves photography, getting together with new or old friends and being able to share and learn from each other is invaluable. Don't let fear get the best of you, just DO IT!
aw! my first maternity pics by Julie Wilhite! Love this post and I had a great time. I can't wait for our next Pack meet :)
(05.29.09)Yay! I love that we're vanity posting, Margaret! Julie where are your beautiful quasi-self portraits?!
Thanks for making me look so cute!

I slightly outdid myself with the number of images I am posting...(no, REALLY) but I just couldn't help it! I hope you will agree it was worth it...LOVE this first one.

I mean seriously, look how hot they are? Are they posing for a magazine?

Shelly's friend Rory did the flowers and they were GORGEOUS...

Where to start with our resident Michael Jackson for the night...he not only knew all the words, he knew ALL the dance moves. He was TRULY an entertainer. :)

Just a great night all around...

For any new photographer out there, setting up a session with a photographer that you admire is an amazing way of growing as an artist. When I first started out in photography, I remember thinking that these sessions and workshops were A LOT of money and they still are, but I will tell you whole heartedly that if you are smart about the people you reach out to and the workshops you take your precious time and money to attend, it will pay off 150%.
Enjoy!

Awesome pictures! :)
